The unique grace and power of Gluck’s sublime reworking of the Orpheus myth is revealed in full at the opening night of Opera North’s new concert performance of Orfeo ed Euridice.

The beauty and directness of the music pierces the heart: in the terror of Orfeo’s encounter with the Furies; in the tenderness of the pastoral scenes; and, above all, in Orfeo’s celebrated lament for his lost love, ‘Che farò senza Euridice?’ (What is life without Euridice?).
