Gershwin An American in Paris Copland Clarinet Concerto Shaw Concerto for Clarinet Gruber Manhattan Broadcasts Ellington Harlem
Join us on a musical journey from the streets of Paris to a Sunday morning in Harlem, New York as the sounds of symphonic jazz, boogie- woogie and blues fill Huddersfield Town Hall. Opera North Music Director Garry Walker conducts a transatlantic programme, opening with Gershwin’s An American in Paris, inspired by the sights and sounds of the French capital during the Roaring Twenties. One of the world’s finest clarinettists, Julian Bliss, performs Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, followed by another showcase for the instrument by Artie Shaw. The concert closes with Duke Ellington’s blues-drenched Harlem.
Pre-concert talk begins at 6.40pm
